The mother load of stencils! The Stencil Library claims to be the world’s largest stencil mail order collection. You know what? They ain’t kidding!

Not only does their catalogue list over 3500 designs, but they also sell accessories and give DIY tips on the site. There are even more how-to’s and room photos on their Design Inspiration blog.

Oh but wait! There’s more! For those of you who just want to write something on your damn wall but can’t align individual letters, there’s an easy way out. Design your own words or phrase in a font of your choice. I do have to point out how lame you are if you can’t figure out how to take a level and draw a straight line, but….I’ll admit….I’d probably choose to take the shortcut too. The measuring between letters? Yeah, it’s a pain in the arse.

The Stencil Library is a Brit company, so shipping will be pricier for those of us on this side of the pond.

Electric Windows in Beacon

There’s a big ole abandoned building on the east side of Main Street in Beacon. In the town’s heyday, it was the electric blanket factory. Today, each window is covered by a fabulous work of art.

This Saturday, July 31st, the street artists will converge on Beacon once again to do a live installation. They’ll create the works of art right in front of the building during “Electric Windows”. There will also be music,vendors, the works!

If you plan on spending the night in Beacon, there’s an after party at The Piggy Bank starting at 10pm.

Then you can fall in love with Beacon and go buy my house.

Brooklyn Photos from a Brooklyn Guy

Friend plug alert! I went to high school with photographer Erik Lieber. He was taking darkroom classes at Murrow before I knew how to adjust my shutter speed. And 30 years later, he’s shooting Brooklyn like nobody’s business.

Lieber lives in Gowanus now. That’s the industrial area between Carroll Gardens and Park Slope that has just been declared a Superfund site. He shoots both rural and urban landscapes, but of course it’s the Brooklyn shots I really love!

The digital works are printed on archival fiber paper. Price range is $100-$150.

I’ve been eying Eric’s gorgeous work on Facebook and last weekend I finally got around to visiting so I could choose a print to hang on my wall (once I have walls). After making him take out every print he’s ever made, I decided on the one I originally wanted online. (That would be the image above.)

Maybe one day I’ll actually frame and hang my signed Lieber, but for now, I’m happy just to own it.
