UPDATE: THIS HOUSE IS SOLD!

This is an old home lover’s dream! Outrageous restoration of Queen Anne Victorian located within walking distance to train and Main Street, Beacon. Listed with JonCar Realty for $399,900 $379,000.

The House

Built in 1900 and located in the historic district. 2238 square foot, 4 BR home on .24 acre.

The wrap around porch is brand new, rebuilt mostly from the very materials that were reclaimed from the old porch.

The home is set back off the main road with a stone wall and yard frontage adding all the privacy needed.

frontage.jpg

All of the original details remain intact. Vintage hardwood floors throughout, wavy glass windows, ornate antique radiators, fireplace mantel, fine woodwork, old school bathtubs and original plaster. Much of these have already been restored.

Antique light fixtures will remain with the house only with full or close to full price offer.

6 zoned heating system, landmark approved storm windows, newer roof and boiler, upgraded electric!

The Layout

Enter the foyer, where the woodwork and pocket doors will take your breath away. A large stained glass window, antique slip shade light fixture and vintage french doors add to the intensity. Please bring a towel to wipe your drool off the floor.

To the right is the front parlor. Features of this room include Bradbury wallpaper border, upcycled shutters radiator cover and reproduction Galle light fixture.

Go through pocket doors to the rear parlor where there is a similar light fixture, more Bradbury and a wood mantel. The fireplace should be in working condition with a new liner.

To the left is yet another set of pocket doors and more Bradbury (this is getting boring already)….oh, and another ornate Victorian radiator. This room has an exit out to the porch as well.

The kitchen is a mix of new and old. Antique cabinets and wainscoting remain, however, the ceramic tile, butcher block countertop and one of a kind artist tile backsplash are all new. Stainless Bosch dishwasher is energy star and stainless stove has not been used yet at the time of this writing.

There is a full bath off the kitchen. Guess what? More Bradbury in here! It’s kind of a sweet bathroom, with yellow walls and purple trim.

From the kitchen, exit to the backyard or take the servant’s staircase upstairs. That’s right…2 stairways.

Upstairs

Ok, we’re taking the front staircase up. To the right is the small turret room. Because the house has a turret. Yup.

Straight ahead is the front bedroom, currently being used as an office. Actually, currently being used as the room where all the crap goes. An arch with plaster moldings separates the windows from the rest of this room.

The office is connected to another bedroom. This one has built in shelves, not original to the house, but they are handsome nonetheless with the lovely blue and gold paint job. A bit of a funky room, what with the pink chandelier and all.

Across the hall is the guest room (another bedroom). Just a simple, pretty room.

The second bathroom is located at the back of the long hallway. This has been freshened up without replacing anything. Stenciled wood floors are the main feature here.

There is a room behind the bath that is currently being used as a photographer’s darkroom. It needs work, but the new owners can either expand the bath, add a second kitchen (the house is legally a 2 family) or forget the plumbing and use it as the 4th bedroom. It has a closet.

The Backyard

6 foot wood privacy fence totally separates this yard from the outside world. This is a very pet friendly area as proven by the grazing Pitbull in photo. Lots of space to run, but also some cool plantings. Small umbrella trees, hostas and moon flowers that only come out at night. It’s both gorgeous and tranquil out here. There’s a small back porch and a blue stone patio area for a table and chairs.

I believe there are 2 lots up for sale next door. Because it’s an historic district, they are limited by what they can build.

Here’s the listing: http://www.trulia.com/property/39823491-37-North-Ave-Beacon-NY-12508

There may be two single family Victorians that would be built to resemble the surrounding homes.

The main problem I foresee with that is it will be noisy while they’re building. I went to the meeting to see what this property is all about and I was assured that there is space between my house and next door. I was also pleased to find out that the driveway will be on the other side of the house.

Will it be fugly? Probably. But at least it won’t be a huge McMansion or an apartment complex.

Hope this helps!

if only I hadn’t spent every last dime on this money pit. I would buy this place in a second. I am actually trying to convince some friends that this would e a great weekend get away and get them to go in with me. Are you interested? we can go fourseeys?

How funny – I’ve visited your site before, of course, but I never realized where you live. I just hopped over here after reading your comment about moving back to Brooklyn. I know exactly which house this is! We’ve been watching and admiring the work you’ve been doing on it for quite some time now, and it’s a treat to see the inside. You’ve done a really beautiful job.

I am so absolutely amazed at how dumb some people can actually be that they do not recognize a great home when they see one! I am one of the neighbors to this beautiful home and I cannot stand it that I can’t buy it myself. We already own a home and it’s quite a handful for us but why someone wants to sit on their hands while letting this unique opportunity to own one of only a handful of the most beautiful homes for MILES!

As neighbors we would hated to see such great people move out but being born and raised in Brooklyn, I can understand the pull for them. (and practicality as well)

We love our house, and we also love this other one so much as well. I wish we could own both! This is really turnkey and the city of Beacon is really a great and convenient place to live. You could NEVER afford such a home if you saw it in some pockets in Flatbush near some of the old historic Dutch homesteads because this house there would cost over a million or close! It’s the real deal and has features other homes on the same street do not have like a generous driveway (for that road) and a fantastic well kept, planned garden ready for you to just sit and relax.

As for convenience, man! The Metro North train is a very short 12 min walk (you can drive to a large parking lot if you wanted to and pay only about three friggin dollars to park for 16 hours!!

You could own (read it… O-W-N !!) your home instead of throw all your money down the drain while you live in a hot rented box that takes as long to get to on the broken down trains as it does to get to your fabulous home in the fresh air!

If you have had your fill of the city, which I happen to love as well but can’t afford to own anything in, then check out this once in a lifetime opportunity!
