What happens when a photographer/design consultant teams up with a furniture designer and reclaimed timber expert? “Made of New York” furniture happens.

John-Michael Ekeblad is the photographer. He builds the frames around the images as well. His work is snippets of NYC life. The cockroach is kind of our mascot, isn’t it?

The reclaimed wood furniture is pretty awesome. Prices aren’t crazy for the quality of work and materials.  Just check out some of the stuff for yourself!

Happy 2011! We made our annual trek down to Coney for the Polar Bear swim. Apologies for the photos in advance. Arrived too late to get the 1pm “Everybody into the water!”, then realized my lens filter was shattered and stuck on the lens. So, some artsy “cracked lens” technique going on here.

All of the shots on this $459k Bed Stuy home look as if they’ve been taken with a fish eye lens, but it’s obvious a guy took the photo. Because they don’t know how to PUT. THE. FRIGGIN. TOILET. SEAT. DOWN!

Wow, killer views of the parking lot on this Bronx apartment! The screen. The wire hanging down. But wait, there’s more…

WTF? Check out the listing. There’s an image of a hand taking money out of a mouse trap. I don’t get it. Can someone explain?

A 2600+ sq ft home in Ditmars Steinway, Queens. The realtor has 3 shots up on Trulia. All of the same bathroom.

New construction on Staten Island for $1,385,000. Ya think maybe for that price the agent might have gotten a few shots? No, this was it. It’s not making sense to me. Looks like two different staircases put together. And what’s the black business on the left side of the frame? Don’t tell me they snapped a shot from a video!

Brooklyn Photos from a Brooklyn Guy

Friend plug alert! I went to high school with photographer Erik Lieber. He was taking darkroom classes at Murrow before I knew how to adjust my shutter speed. And 30 years later, he’s shooting Brooklyn like nobody’s business.

Lieber lives in Gowanus now. That’s the industrial area between Carroll Gardens and Park Slope that has just been declared a Superfund site. He shoots both rural and urban landscapes, but of course it’s the Brooklyn shots I really love!

The digital works are printed on archival fiber paper. Price range is $100-$150.

I’ve been eying Eric’s gorgeous work on Facebook and last weekend I finally got around to visiting so I could choose a print to hang on my wall (once I have walls). After making him take out every print he’s ever made, I decided on the one I originally wanted online. (That would be the image above.)

Maybe one day I’ll actually frame and hang my signed Lieber, but for now, I’m happy just to own it.

Most of these shots are Gowanus unless otherwise specified. There are tons more on his site.
