Psychic medium Bobbi Allison is based in NY and Florida. My mother and I chose to visit her in Wantagh, Long Island, where she works out of a suburban apartment in a private home. She came highly recommended by a cousin. Not to be confused with the other cousins whom suggested the other psychic two years ago. Let’s just say that my family likes to keep up with deceased loved ones.

Bobbi charges $150 for a full hour. She’ll tape the session for you if you bring a cassette. This woman is gifted. She read three people back to back and although her energy was totally drained, she was right on target.

Ms. Allison crams a bunch into her sessions too. She fires off information quickly. Who’s M? Why did you have a falling out with J? Oh, I see a birthday coming up. So, who is your nurse friend with the children? I couldn’t keep up, but it’s on the tape and she takes notes so she can just keep going and her clients can figure it out later. About 45 minutes into the session I finally figured out who this M was (full name not given to protect the innocent) she kept talking about. Once I did, what he had to say really fell into place.

Bobbi asks the spirits not to see death, so no worries about really scary predictions. She sprinkles tips here and there on how to manifest  goals and stay protected. The reading validations are fairly personal, meaning not things she can pick up from a google search or by asking too many questions. My husband’s family dominated part of my reading and she gave details, so I’m saying this chick is the real deal.

You want a reading? I think she gets pretty booked up, so do it waaaay in advance. You won’t be sorry!

Not All Air Mattresses Were Created Equal

We’ve gone through our share of air mattresses. They last until the dogs get into the room and jump on them. Ok, so not even the best quality air mattress will hold up to two large mutts. But what of the comfort?

I can’t recall the names of Air Mattresses Past. The one we’re using now whilst Mother is in town is an Intex. I was very excited to find a queen size at EMS for like 80 bucks. Now I know why it was only $80. It sucks! Man, I’d rather be sleeping on the floor! In fact, last night I just moved on over to the couch.

If you fill it up too much, it’s really hard. Keep it a tad soft and you’ll be on the floor by morning. Oh, but that’s not all, folks! The “cushions” are so bumpy. My extremities actually fall asleep from this sucky mattress.

I’ve paid just under $200 for comfortable queen air mattresses that I was able to sleep on for extended lengths of time. I want to take a knife and slash this one.

Penny wise, pound foolish. An $80 Intex air mattress? Don’t do it.

Remember Rene I Am The Best Artist? His stuff was all over Soho. I used to be all like “What a pompous ass!” Where is he now? According to his website, it looks like he may have died in 2003, but the whole thing is tongue in cheek, so I think that could be false.

Before it was hip to be green, Mr. Purple was a green hipster. The vegetarian squatter freegan who lived without electricity on the Lower East Side was seen riding his bike everywhere back in the day. He lost his Garden of Eden to bulldozers back in 1986 and became homeless after his tenement building gave way to gentrification. Where is he now? Closest thing I could find was this 2007 blog post.

Lulu’s on 5th is breeding again. Brigitte, the owner of the two shops on 5th Avenue in Park Slope teamed up with my pal Ann Marie to open up a used clothing store for the kiddies.

Lulu’s Then and Now is set to open around Labor Day and they are currently accepting gently used clothing and toys. Ann Marie will be watching the new store at 75A 5th. She was the woman behind the now closed City Cricket in the W. Village. Ann Marie is lovin’ the Brooklyn thing!

The shop will include less expensive items from places like Old Navy to higher end designer clothing. Pretty much what folks donate. When I first walked in, I didn’t realize it was a used clothing store. The stuff is VERY gently used.

The best thing about the location is that it’s right across the street from Beacon’s Closet. So when your done shopping for the kid, pick up something nice for yourself.

Electric Windows in Beacon

There’s a big ole abandoned building on the east side of Main Street in Beacon. In the town’s heyday, it was the electric blanket factory. Today, each window is covered by a fabulous work of art.

This Saturday, July 31st, the street artists will converge on Beacon once again to do a live installation. They’ll create the works of art right in front of the building during “Electric Windows”. There will also be music, vendors, the works!

If you plan on spending the night in Beacon, there’s an after party at The Piggy Bank starting at 10pm.

Then you can fall in love with Beacon and go buy my house.
