When we bought our house back in late 2005, we did a complete renovation. We purchased all new appliances. They were all Frigidaire because the company manufactured the best looking appliances for the lowest price.

Well, looks aren’t everything. To be fair, we purchased the most affordable Frigidaire models. Perhaps the higher end lines are far better.

Our washing machine had to be repaired after about 3 years. Just after the warranty had expired, of course. A $200 repair. It’s still not 100% but we’ll hang on to it until it dies.

Today we’re getting delivery of a dishwasher and gas dryer. Bosch and LG, thank you very much. It’s shameful that big appliances would only last 5-6 years. WTF?

Were we wrong for expecting more? In this disposable society, you get what you pay for. If I may pass on some advice from my mistakes….don’t buy big ticket items based solely on price and looks. Sometimes it’s worth it to pay a bit more. (Of course, this being said, I hope the Bosch and LG last longer!)

I agree! I bought a Frigidaire refrigerator because it was stainless, reasonably priced, and you’d think that with a name like Frigidaire it would keep things cool. I mean, Frigid + Air(e) = No brainer.

Nope. I have to defrost the f’er every month. Like take out the back panel and blowdry defrost. Complete POS.

Yup. They must have gone downhill. I don’t think they were always this bad or they wouldn’t be in business.

I got my delivery. The new LG dryer is sitting next to the old Frigidaire washer and what a difference! Just the look and feel of the thing…so much more solid than Effindaire!

Hmm… thanks for the warning. I’m looking at my pretty Frigidaire stainless as we speak. So far, so good — but it’s only been a year and a 1/2. Must be the good old American industry principle of planned obsolescence. An electrician recently told me that light bulbs could be made to last virtually forever…and if that’s true, it’s probably true of many things. But then where would the economy be?

Purchased a 70 pint dehumidifier. Unit had problem starting causing my electric bill to almost double. Could not believe their customer service phone system. 2 months later & still waiting a refund. YES. They ahve gone downhill!

We remodeled our kitchen in 2012. During the remodel we purchased a new Frigidaire Gallery Appliance Suite including: washer, dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, and oven. Within the last 2 years all of the appliances (except the dryer) have needed multiple service calls and have cost us almost a full work week of our time (which is a loss of additional money) and additional cash outlay on our part of over $500 with an additional $330 needed currently.

Needless to say, we have been supremely unhappy with basic functionality and reliability of these Frigidaire appliances – except the dryer – the only one not to break. We think we have put up with enough service calls and additional cash outlay to fix things that should not break, that Frigidaire should replace our now broken dishwasher with a similar or better model that matches aesthetically.

Our service call saga:

The Dishwasher

The dishwasher’s “Normal Wash” and “Start” buttons no longer work. It also leaks intermittently from the front right door. To replace the button panel would cost an additional $330 to repair. Since the leak is intermittent, it has not been able to be diagnosed yet. A new dishwasher is about $450.

The Refrigerator built up ice inside the refrigerator and had 3 separate service calls over the first year of life until it was replaced with a new refrigerator. To replace it fully entailed pulling the door off of our house to get it inside.

The Oven

Serial Number: NF11621967

The element broke. The part that makes the oven work, broke during summer 2014 (the oven was under 2 years old). Replaced.

Clothes Washer

Serial Number: 4C13707933

The washer was shipped / installed with a water hose with a hole in it and kept leaking on the floor. This took 3 visits to diagnose.

Spoke to Customer Service Rep Latara W. She indicated Frigidaire is not responsible and will not pay for anything because they are out of warranty. I did explain that when people buy a suite of new appliances regardless of if they have a year warranty, they are buying them with the reasonable expectation that they will last longer than one year and in our case, this is clearly outside the reasonable expectation of what a consumer should expect. I said I would be spreading my experience via social media.
