Sidney Lumet’s New York
Over the weekend we said goodbye to one of the kings of gritty old New York films. Sidney Lumet lost his battle with lymphoma at the age of 86.
I came of age on those gritty NY streets in the 60’s and 70’s, but everyone experienced the same New York thanks to Mr. Lumet. The city was a character in his films as important as the leading role.
Instead of going on about Lumet and his movies, I’m sharing three videos of real life people: Frank Serpico (Serpico), John Wojtowicz (Dog Day Afternoon), Bob Leuci (Prince of the City).

New Yawk Accents: All 5 Boros
This is too funny! It’s not a recent video, but I just discovered it. Some woman takes us through the distinct accents of each borough. I LMFAO at Da Bronx, but wasn’t too thrilled about her Brooklyn. After 45 years, I don’t think I could tell ya which borough a person is from by hearing them talk.
Got Dream?
Yay, MLK! Instead of posting the usual Dream Speech, here’s President Obama’s Tuscon memorial speech from last week. If you missed it, please do watch in it’s entirety. And have a box of tissues handy.
Remember, if it wasn’t for Martin Luther King Jr, this man would not be our President. (We also have GW Bush and Sarah Palin to thank for that). It is awesome, but this country still has quite a way to go. Quite a way.

BP Burning Turtles Alive
Ah, the good news just keeps on coming out of the gulf. I caught wind of this video from Credo. It’s just an interview, nothing bad happens. There are several horrible videos on You Tube now….dolphins, birds, fish and sea turtles dying and washing ashore. I couldn’t watch. Don’t expect you to watch either. Just be aware that it’s happening and do something about it!
There’s a petition for ya to sign @ Credo.
Tea Party Comes to Brooklyn
Get the f* outta here! No really, please go away.
I’d Like to See the Show 2 More Times!
Damn, I was looking for the “I laughed. I cried. It was better than Cats!” commercial, but I forgot what show that was. This will do for now.
Catskills Past
Did you ever take a drive in The Catskills and spot a huge abandoned mansion and wonder what it once was? This video showcases some gorgeous hotels from the 1920’s-60’s. Recognize any of them?
* Check out the signs @ 37 seconds. There was a “Phyl-Bob”! That’s me!! WTF?
Old Local Christmas Commercials
Alexander’s. How annoying was this woman? And check out Jack Cafferty at the start of the video!
Crazy Eddie! His prices are insane!
Because I’m The Wiz! And nobody beats me!
Milford Plaza. Ok, so it’s not a Christmas commercial, but I had to grab it.
Carnival of Carnage in Clinton Hill
Every year 313 Clinton Avenue in Brooklyn turns into a spook house around Halloween. This year is no exception. Check out Robin from Clinton Hill Blog tap dancing away in this NY 1 clip.
Eco Brooklyn, Part II
It seems like a lifetime ago that I posted part 1 of the Eco Brooklyn interview. This one needed editing and I finally got around to doing it. Can’t say I did a great job, but it’s done. Forget the fact that the house is probably finished by now and there are probably people living there. I said I’d upload the rest and I came through.
