In reply to <a href="https://reclaimedhome.com/2012/07/27/antique-kitchen-cabinets-2/#comment-221378">Latricia Clardy</a>.

This was an image I grabbed from the internet, so I can’t answer that. To me it looks like a chalk paint though. As you see, it’s a bit distressed. If I wanted to recreate that look, I’d use a deep red chalk paint (store bought or make your own by mixing plaster in) and brush it on right over the wood without primer. You can distress by sanding or with a wet rag. Be sure to wax or poly over it.

[…] The only color question still unanswered is whether to pain the inside of the hutch red or go with an accent color. I like the way the yellow lightens up this piece from Reclaimed Home. […]

I just grabbed that photo from Pinterest and apparently the link is no longer working. I'm going to guess that's chalk paint. The two main companies are Annie Sloane and Americana Decor, although everyone makes chalk paint now. You can also make your own with any number of recipes ranging from plaster to baking soda. Much less expensive and you can play with the color a bit too!

Reclaiming cabinets is a great way to reuse furnishings in new ways. Many home owners don't even realize that they can simply reface the cabinets they already own - which is less expensive than replacing the cabinets and it saves on material costs are you are using the cabinets that are already in the kitchen.

I really like the chinese cabinet. I seen something like this recently but it was more of a pharmacy cabinet. It had those little handles where you can slide in a labelled name to each drawer.
