I haven't researched it any further yet, so the Finger Lakes are still up for discussion. But Judd, dude! Thanks for your concern, but I can't live my life in fear. Live free or die! Hmmm, maybe I should go to New Hampshire. ;)

Here's something to consider: the geography of ticks and lyme disease - especially with dogs. Marthas V/Nantucket, Fire and Shelter Islands are GROUND ZERO for lyme and ticks (and expensive as hell, to boot)...the HV is bad as well, especially the east side! Generally, the farther west you go the better. Dutchess, Ulster, and Suffolk have VERY high rates of lyme - over 1000 times the rates to the west - the Finger Lakes have virtually zero lyme and ticks, are beautiful, very cheap, and quiet. There's my vote.

I'm liking option #1 or #2 since I am an upstate kinda guy :->
Went to college at SUNY New Paltz, and spent most summers in the same areas as you did - kinda heart to beat "old hat" stuff and things to do :->

I just visited the website. OMG, that place totally just reminded me of this 1980's movie with Christopher Reed and Jane Seymour. "Somewhere in Time".

I was thinking of a house rental because of the dogs, but I'm-a-gonna keep this in mind for another time.

Thanks!

My family used to spend a week in Cape May every summer. The Chalfonte was always a favorite. It's the oldest continuously operating hotel in Cape May and blissfully free of modern amenities. No telephones, no internet, no air conditioning, most of the rooms share the common bathrooms in the hall. Rocking chairs on the huge wrap-around porch. Sea-breezes wafting by. The peace & quiet.

Adding their delish breakfasts & dinners to the room rate is totally worth it. Something new is served every night but breakfast remains mostly the same (the biscuits are basically crack in carb form). I could go on but yeah... It's one of my favorite places in the world.
