i'm assuming Sonya meant 'opponent' instead of proponent. the issue surely has been overblown, but as a definite proponent of its construction i say, sooner or late america is going to have to confront its double-standard of treating people differently for no good reason other than their religion/color/politics. we can't say we stand for freedom if we let the loudest mouth in the room set our definitions.

and THANK YOU on habana outpost, i've had the same issue with the place since i lived in the neighborhood. it's a shame, it's a cute concept, half-assedly executed.

Sonya, I hope you didn't change your mind after reading my post. I get my facts from The Daily Show. You should look into it yourself!

I guess I should have said that people may be misinformed rather than racist, but you know a lot of this has to do with racism. There are anti-mosque protests around the country. What's that all about?

Yeah, the Habana Outpost thing isn't much of a story. Just needed to make the post longer.

!. I, as well, see both sides of this issue. I totally agree that if they want to build it, it should complement the Empire State Building and not in that weird ass looking building in the photo. I am usually an advocate for change but change is not always good. But nothing stays the same forever. Not even the beautiful NYC skyline.

2. I am ashamed of myself for being a proponent of the mosque being built. I was woefully misinformed and now that I have all the correct and proper information, I think this is such a nonissue and can't believe the way the media has blown this totally out of proportion without providing all of the facts and details. I was picturing this huge, monstrous, domed thing sitting right in the footprints of Ground Zero. Yes, that angered me since I had 3 friends that perished that day and I found it to be quite an insensitive thing to do. Now that I know that it is just a mosque/community center more than 100 feet away in an unassuming building. Who cares? I might even go shoot some hoops there. If I were so inclined to shoot hoops.

3.I have no idea what the hell Habana Outpost.
